Trying to ID 28B and 28D Channel Balances

A handy person from Florida says:
I need some new spring balances, but am not able to decide on the the correct ends.

I need two versions of a type 60 window balance, and the metal for both is 29" long.

One version says "28B USB"; the window they are used on weighs 13.4 lbs. The other says "29D USB"; the window they are used on weighs 28.8 lbs.

I have attached a jpg file that shows multiple views of the ends, and includes some critical dimensions.

Any idea what I should order?

Thanks,

Grrrrandpa

Thanks for writing in, grandpa! Based on the pictures of the nylon fittings and the 29" channel length, I believe you need our S380-29. Just double-check the specifications and dimensions to make sure this can work for you. For the set of balances stamped 28B, you'll need a stamp option of 2820. For the set stamped 29D, this is a bit unusual, as stamp codes are usually one number less than the length of the metal channel. Are you certain this set is also 29" long? If so, it's possible they were cut down to fit your windows. If the balances are indeed 29" long, and the window weighs 28.8 lbs, use our 2850 stamp option for this set. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, Bob. This is my embarrassed face :-( The balance says 28, not 29 like I had said in my initial message.

No worries! That certainly makes more sense though. In which case, you might as well just use your original stamp option of 28D or 2840 for this set. This covers a window sash in the weight range of 32 through 35 lbs. Unless you had a lot of trouble keeping this window open prior to the balances breaking, it's best to replace the original stamp code.
