Spring and friction shoe missing on one side

A home owner from Atlanta, GA says:
I have a double-hung window where the top sash slips down. I removed the sash and saw that the spring and friction shoe (appearance is similar to Caradco 15-104) are missing entirely on one side. If I remove the jamb liner, is it feasible to feed a new spring and friction shoe in from the top of the liner?

Tom from SWISCO responded:

It may be possible to feed a new spring into the jamb track, but the problem you're going to have is finding a replacement spring to begin with. Those aren't typically sold separately. In all likelihood you will need an all new jamb liner to replace this.

I think your best bet in this situation is to contact the original window manufacturer for assistance.
