Switch doesn't move hook

Question

When I move the switch down, the hook doesn't move. When I move the switch up, the hook pops out momentarily then back in. To lock the door, I have to pry the hook out with my finger, shut the door, and move the switch down. I don't know if the problem is with the handle switch or the hook mechanism.

Hello there. Remove the handle set from the door and try manually throwing the lock with a slotted screwdriver. If it has the same issue, then you know the lock is the problem. The 82-227 will replace it. If the thumb lever is damaged in any way, see the 82-106.
