I bought these American Craftsman double-pane vinyl windows from Home Depot around 2010.
Some of them do not stay up.  These photos are of the right side.  I am interested in replacing the entire cartridge.
Question: If I have to cut channels to remove the defective cartridges - should the channels be parallel (one left, one right) or should they be offset so the window sash does not accidently come out of the tracks?

Thanks for reaching out! Your window balance assembly appears to use the 15-087 Coil Housing Pivot and 15-086 Tandem Coil Housing. I'm fairly certain these are the correct replacements but be sure to carefully compare their specifications.

These both use the Series 180 Coil Balance. For the housing pivot you'll need the S180-06 and for the tandem housing you'll need the S180-07. The 16-024 Mounting Bracket anchors them to the window jamb.
