Top sash guide identification

Home Owner from SanAntonio, TX
House Built in 2002. Windows are builder grade, single hung aluminum windows (non-tilt with Spiral balances) I need to replace not only the spiral balances but the top sash guide on multiple windows.

Problem: how to remove the lower window to identify/replace the top sash guides. (I am assuming it is held in place by a screw which can only be accessed by taking the window out)

I have removed the spiral balances on one window and tried move the window sideways trying to clear the flanges so that the window can be removed but, to no avail. There is only about 1/16 of an inch movement to either side which is not enough for the sash flanges to clear the fixed window guide.

Please help

Hello,

Unfortunately, it looks like you have a builders-grade window, which has sashes that are not removable. You may need the Series 400 spiral balance for your repair, which has a tube diameter of 3/8". Since you were able to remove the balance, you can replace them but it can be tricky to angle the new balances into the top of the sash. Take a look and see what you think.

The top sash guide and bottom bracket are screwed on the side of the sash, making it impossible to replace. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you. I was afraid you were going to say that. I guess I am SOL, except for being able to replace the balances. These balances do not use a bottom "bracket" but have attached clips. I will check out your site for them.

Again, thanks for taking the time to answer
