Trouble with 82-265

A handy person from Sarasota, Florida says:

I am having trouble with a 82-265. Sometimes it cannot be opened because the anti-slam button is not fully depressed because there is too much play when the door is locked. I have tried to adjust the two screws, but I cannot reduce the play. I can't find instructions on line.

Do I need to replace the lock, or is there some way to adjust it and reduce the play?

Tom from SWISCO responded:

I don't know of a way to reduce the play off the top of my head, unfortunately. It sounds like whatever spring mechanism is in your old mortise that the anti-slam button uses is shot. If adjusting the hooks did not help then you may need a new mortise. Also make sure to examine the keeper to make sure there is no visible damage there.
