Viking 9450 coil balance

Handy Person from san francisco
Hi I have a number of viking 9450 double hung windows. The lower sash on some of them no longer stays up, so i want to try replacing the coil balances. Do you offer replacement parts, and if so does the size of the window matter (because of the weight difference)?
Thanks!!

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for reaching out to us! I am confident we can supply you with a replacement for the coil assembly you need but I will need to see an unobstructed view of the bottom piece of the assembly to determine the correct replacement.

It might be best to remove the entire assembly, so that you'll be able to compare the dimensions from our recommendations to confirm that they are the right fit.

The size does somewhat matter because it will factor into the weight of the sash. The sash weight is what we use to determine the coils needed for the assembly. Since your coil housings have 5s stamped on them, it is likely your sash weighs 20lbs.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have in the meantime.

Hi There! OK here's a bunch more info. There are actually two windows that have this problem, which I'll call Small and Large. Small window: Sash weighs 11 pounds. Each side has a single of the "large" plastic cartridges - see new pictures. They did not have a number marked on them. OK the Large window has an 18 pound sash. Each side has one large and one small plastic cartridge locked to each other, both marked "5"....Those are the first pictures I sent. It's not clear to me if the end of the metal spring should be sticking out of the cartridge, like you see in the new pictures. Lastly, the plastic cartridges have outside dimensions of 1 3/16" wide and 1/2" deep. Oh just in case it wasn't clear: the problem is that the sashes don't stay in place when you try to raise them :). Thanks big time!

Thanks for the photos and the detailed information! Your coil balance housing reminds me of the 15-057 Coil Housing Pivot. For the window that has two housings in it, you may also need the 15-086 Tandem Coil Housing. Take a look over each of their dimensions to confirm that these are the right fit.

You'll need the 15-087 to repair both windows.

Each of these coil housings are compatible with the Series 180 Coil Balance. Given the sash weights and stamps you've confirmed, I suggest using the S180-05 for your coils.
