Viking non-tilt window balance

A quick learner from Santa Rosa, CA says:
This balance's counterpart failed spectacularly: the spring broke while we were in a darkened room watching TV. Sounded like a brick was thrown at the window. Looks like S395, but the lower fitting is 1 3/32 wide.

Thanks for posting. I agree the S395-23 looks correct, notwithstanding the difference in the shoe depth, since the shoe on the Series 395 is 1-1/8" deep, not 1-3/32". Now, these shoes can wear down a bit over time, so it's entirely possible that your balance's shoe was originally 1-1/8". I'd bet this is the case, considering a lot of Viking windows use the Series 395. Still, it might be prudent to measure the shoe on another balance in the house just to be safe. If it's definitely 1-3/32", there's a few other options we can work with, but let's be certain before proceeding. If other balances confirm the 1-1/8" measurement, however, then go with the S395-23 with a stamp option of 2230.
