Window Balance

Quick Learner
I'm looking for replacement window balances. The ones we have now are 26" long and are stamped with the number 2590. (There's also a "27" stamped on but the measurement of the metal is only 26"). However, in reviewing your website, I'm seeing parts that only go up to 2570 across all of the S350 through S395 models. Can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks much.

Hello! Thanks for reaching out. I'll do my best to assist you with his project.

To start, it's very odd for a 26" long balance to have a stamp starting with "27". That's not normal, it should always be one digit less than the length as a rule. Part of me thinks that the original installers didn't have enough 26" long balances on hand when they put in the windows, so they cut down a 28" long balance and used that instead. It's been known to happen.

Either way, we probably shouldn't trust the stamp. Let's ignore that and go with the hard, verifiable details: in this case, your length of the metal channel and the precise weight of the sash. We have a chart on the Series 350 and Series 395 store pages that tells you precisely how much weight each option can support. All you have to do is pick whichever option covers your sash weight.

That goes for the stamp ending in "90," as well. That's just an old rating system that's not used very much these days. Odds are one of our normal stamps will work for you, but you have to get the sash weight to verify which one.
