Window Balance Size

Question

Hello,

I am wondering if you could please tell me the correct size of this window balance so I can order and replace. I had a few windows not staying open a few years ago and on the receipt it had 2820 wing ends? However, the only code I can find on the balance I just removed was 28C. I have attached 6 photos for you to review, please let me know if you need anything further. The length from metal to metal is 29 inches, I have non tilt windows. I really appreciate your time and help with this matter. I want to make sure I order the correct balance as my windows are very heavy and I don't want my kids or anyone getting hurt opening them.

Hello,

With this combination of attachments, you could have either the S380-29 or S385-29 channel balance. You’ll need to measure as shown below. The Series 380 has a 1" bottom attachment, and the Series 385 has a 1-3/32" attachment.

The 28C stamped on your balance would generally correspond to 2830 spring strength options for your replacement balances, which would support a sash between 16-23 pounds. If you're unsure if the stamp code on your balance is correct, I'd recommend weighing your window sash to confirm the correct strength options.
