Window Balances

A home owner from Murrells Inlet South Carolina says:
Hi,
I need two new window balances. The metal channel on both is 28" long. They have 27D and what looks like 3.S.I. stamped on the metal. I've taken pictures to hopefully help identify them.

Hello,

With this combination of attachments, you could have either the S380-28 or S385-28 channel balance. You’ll need to measure as shown below. The Series 380 has a 1" bottom attachment, and the Series 385 has a 1-3/32" attachment.

You'll also need 2740 spring strength options for your replacement balances. Thank you and let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks Casey!

I just ordered two of the S385 Balances with the 2740 springs.

Hi,

I just installed the new balances but the window isn't catching them on the way down. So the balances aren't attaching to the window.

The plastic pieces on the window are brittle. The left side catches the balance and then it flies off partway down.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble installing your balances. Your top sash guide reminds me of the 18-061 at first glance but the dimensions would be the determining factor. Take a look and compare the specifications below to your part. If you notice any discrepancies, please write out your exact measurements and we can go from there.

Unfortunately, I do not recognize the metal bracket that is also shown in your photos. It seems like it could be part of the sash frame. If so, unfortunately, that is not something that we can supply and would be specific to the manufacturer.

Thanks Casey, based on what remains of my top sash clips, I believe the dimensions are the same. I'll try a couple of these!
