Window Coil Replacement

Home Owner from Winter Garden, Fl
Hello,

I am completely unsure of my Window Coil and which one I need replaced. I know that it can hold 10Lbs and to replace the 10-L on the left and 10-R on the right, but am unsure of what specific type of coil I need. When I had someone come by for a quote, they mentioned that my coil is unique since it is attached to the system?

Also, it seemed locked in place and would NOT let me remove the window panel at all.

Hey there,

We appreciate you contacting us! I am confident we can provide you with a replacement recommendation for the coil balance assembly you need but I'll need to see it removed from the window to identify it. The view of your balance is obstructed by the sash so it it hard to narrow down the exact replacement you need.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.

Thank you so much for getting back to me quickly. I am a parent to a newborn and desperate to get this fixed. I tried to get the window panel removed to get a better look at the piece but the panel felt like it was going to shatter when I was pulling it out. I watched videos that mention to have the panel at a 90' angle and then twist it to pop it out but it is not removing. I am stuck at the moment with it in place. Is there a handful of pieces I can buy? I am desperate and cannot remove the window panel at the moment. Can I do anything to move this forward without risking damaging the panel?

I'm happy to help and congratulations! There are a few possible part recommendations that can be made for replacing your coil assembly, so I am not sure that this would make the process easier but it will help to narrow down the options. To start, there is the S161-10 and S210-10 Roller-Tilt assemblies. Another option is the 15-086 Coil Housing Pivot which would be used along with the S180-10 Coil Balance.

While the housing for each of these assemblies appears to be similar, they each have different measurements. The slight difference in their measurements will determine which of them is needed for your repairs.

You'll find the each of their measurements on their individual pages in the online catalog. Their compatible hardware and accessories can be found in the 'related item(s) section for each part.

Thank you so much for the comment Jasmine. I am desperate to get these windows fixed. I dont know what to do anymore. If I purchase all 4 of the ones you mentioned and have them shipped to me, does that mean that 1 set is the correct one?

I would be more than happy to buy 2 of all 4 so that whichever 2 are the right ones I will keep and I don't need to return the other 2 that don't fit. I just want to make sure that one set of those 2 are the right ones.

I will try to remove the windows again and see if I can get more info but right now you have given me hope. Please let me know if you think 1 set of those will work. Its okay if I have to buy all 4 twice.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your questions accurately and truthfully without seeing a photo of the hardware removed. Each of these seem to be similar to your existing hardware and there is a strong likelihood that one of them will be a fit but I cannot make any guarantees.

The best way to know what would fit in the window would be to compare the measurements.

I hope this helps!

I understand! I gave it another go and was able to remove my window panel. I took these pictures and will leave it off until I hear from you to possibly take better ones. I dont see any identifiable info just yet. There is also the rings that are stuck all the way at the middle of the window by the screwed in plastic piece.

I am not sure where that coil came from or where its supposed to be that is stuck in the middle.

Thanks for the photos. The coil you are seeing is part of the coil inside the housing of your coil assembly. When these break, sometimes part of the coil pops out of the housing.

It looks like you have the S161-10 Coil Balance. These can be used for the left and right side of the window and will come ready to install. The clear piece that anchors the coil to the window is the 16-030 Clear Bracket.

Take a look at the video tutorials tagged below this thread for an idea on how to remove and install these coil balance assemblies.

Thank you so much. I am going to order 4 of them now just in case.

I have watched the videos you have sent but do not see any that are related directly to coil balances. Is that okay? I am open to giving this a try but am hoping there is a video that is more directly related to the parts and process I will need to follow.

The videos tagged below give the best idea for how to remove the balances. The process would be similar to what is shown in both of the videos.

Sounds great! Thank you. The pieces should arrive tomorrow since I did express. I will be taking one window out and attempting to install it.

I noticed there is the metal piece that sticks out of the 161. Does that need to hook into anything? The videos sent don't touch on that in comparison to my window. I don't have the long twisting metal thing to clip it to.

The reason I ask is when I installed the piece and closed my window, it would not move up or down at all. Right now the window is hooked into the new 161 coil balance, but that is not necessarily tied to anything else. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

The metal tab that sticks out of the side is the actual coil balance. This attaches to the clear mounting bracket screwed to the window frame. I would suggest taking a look at window in the home that has a working balance to get an idea of what it should look like installed.

Good morning and Thank you Jasmine! I see what you mean! It is hooked in there from when it is installed and not something that you can do after the fact. I will give this another go shortly! Thank you!
