Window Track Parts

Home Owner from Raleigh NC
I had replacement glass installed and several of the attached track pieces are broken.  I think you call them a balance and shoe.   Do you have anything that looks like this?

Hello there. See the 15-180 Pivot Shoe and 15-181 Balance Cover and 15-182 Drums. This system works with Series 190 Coil Balance springs. Let me know if you have further questions.

Bob - thanks for the quick reply - do you sell these as a complete unit that can be installed - I am just concerned I will screw it up trying to assemble

This particular assembly is sold as separate parts. The video below shows how to install a similar coil balance system--the general principles should apply. See the second video below that shows how to choose the correct spring weights for the Series 190 springs. Let me know if you have further questions.

Sorry to be a pain.   I looked at the dimensions of the items you listed.   I measured my existing track and it appears to be just shy of 1/2 inch deep and 1 1/4 wide.  Are there any other options

Can you show me a clearer picture of the pivot shoe? So long as it's the 15-180, this is our best option, and to be honest I haven't seen a version that is less thick. Past customers have reported this shoe and the Series 190 work as replacements.

Thanks for the quick response - your customer service is top notch.  Attached is a picture of the coil section of one of the smaller window and the other is from the larger windows

Thanks for the kind words--we are here to help. I am afraid neither of these photos show the pivot shoe. They show the coil supports from the windows: the 15-181 double support and 15-186 single support, respectively. That said, both of these are clearly the supports that work with the 15-180 Pivot Shoe and Series 190 springs. In any event, it can be difficult to accurately measure the track itself. The only way to know for sure if by some chance this pivot shoe is incorrect is to remove your old one and compare the width and thickness to what we show below. If by some chance it was different that would give me some pause; but to be honest, based on everything you are showing me I have absolutely no reason to doubt the parts I've recommended should work for you. Let me know if you have further questions.

I will order for one of the windows and see if it works..    The small window weighs 6 pounds will two 440's be okay

That would be pretty light of a window sash for this system. Could you verify that sash weight? We will proceed from there.

I weighed the Window and it is about 7 lbs - the window is small about 17 x 22

If the window weighs exactly 7 pounds or slightly more, than the S190-440 4 pound spring will work fine. One on each side of the sash equals 8 pounds of overall support--being within 1 pound of the exact sash weight is sufficient. Let us know if you have further questions.

Hello Bob - The parts I ordered worked great for the window I tried it on.    I have 3 other windows that have broken springs.   They all way 22 lbs - the problem is two of the windows have one spring - which means I need 11 pounds on each side for the Series 190 springs and they only go to 9 pounds.     The other windwon has the double spring would I just order four 5 pound spings or four 6 pound springs?    The shoes are the same on all of them
Thanks

Hey JD. Glad to hear the first replacement worked well! As far as these other windows that all weigh 22 pounds--don't worry about how many coils were in each window originally. The actual number of coil springs originally there actually doesn't matter. What matters is just getting the spring weights right. So for a window that weighs 22 pounds, go with the S190-540 5 pound springs and the S190-640 6 pound springs, one on each side of the the window. That would give you 11 pounds of support on both sides of the window, for that total of 22 pounds of support. Let me know if this makes sense.

Hi Bob that makes perfects sense for the one window that has two spings but what about the one that has only one spring on each side and weighs 22 pounds?    should I be doing the same thing?   The current top piece above only has room for 1 spring

Again, the number of coils in the window doesn't really matter--just getting the weight support right does. I see what you mean though about the old coil cover being for a single spring--in that case though, you can just replace it with a 15-181 double support and 15-182 drums. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you for all the help.   I just ordered 6 springs, 7 shoes, 4 drums, 2 caps and 50 of the spring covers.   Figure I would replace the worn out foam pieces.   It is great you guys exist.   It saves homeowners from having to replace windows
have a great holiday
