Window balance

Home Owner from Roanoke, VA
House in Virginia, built in 2006, several balances broken on vinyl windows. Part # on balance looks like 28C Rd BS1. It is 28" long. Top & bottom sash are about 30" high x 32.5 wide. Pictures attached. Can you identify and have replacement. Also, how do I remove these and replace with new.

We can supply this balance, but it will have to be a custom order due to its configuration. What you have here is nearly identical to our S795-28, but with the screw tab up top swapped out for a 15-198 hook.

We can make this exact balance, I just need a few more details for you. To start, can you tell me the width of the "T" lock shoe? It should be either 1" or 1-1/4". Can you also tell me how many you wanted to buy?

Measuring the shoe will require removal, which you mentioned having trouble with. To remove these balances, you must first unlock the shoe with a screwdriver and allow the cord to fully retract. Note that these are under constant tension so make sure that you have a firm grip on the screwdriver when you unlock the shoe.

Once the cord is retracted, unhook it and tilt the balance in as close to 90 degrees as you can. Then you simply twist it and pull it out.

Please let me know when you can get me the requested data and we can work from there.

Tom - the T lock shoe is 1" wide. Picture attached. I would need at least 4 of the 28" and also 1 that is 26". That one is for a top sash. The others are all bottom sash. Depending on cost I may get a few extra. Let me know on that and the cost. Thanks

Thank you! This is a big help. We can only supply 2 balances minimum for custom orders, I hope that's okay. We always recommend replacing both balances at the same time anyway. You never want to mix old and new assemblies.

With that in mind, what I can do is email you a purchase link for four of the 28" balance and two of the 26". These will be made with the 15-198 top hook attached at the top instead of the screw tab.

You'll also need the 15-194 shoe, which is 1" wide. This is only sold separately at this time, but they just pop on and off. You can do that once you receive them. Just make sure to add these to your cart before you checkout.

Reviewing the data we've put together so far, I still need to know the stamp printed on the 26" balance. Once you tell me that I can email you that purchase link.

The stamp on the 26" is 26C. That is for the top sash. Also, there is a smaller window that has stamp of 28B. Maybe it is because it is a smaller, lighter sash than all the others which are 28C? There are 4 window sash that need replacement balances so 8 balances altogether. I think this is what I need:
4 - 28C Balances for bottom sash
2 - 26C Balances for Top sash
2 - 28B Balances for smaller bottom sash (20 1/4W x 30 1/4H)
All with hook instead of screw attachment

Let me know if you need any other info. Send pricing link too. Thanks

Yes, if the smaller window is lighter in weight, the stamp would be different from the bigger window.

I'm going to email you a purchase link for your requested quantities and sizes that you can use to place an order on our website. Don't forget to add the needed quantity of the 15-194 shoes to your cart separately!

I'm here if you have any questions.

That depends on what shipping option is chosen. All "Express Delivery" orders are shipped out the next business day. Regular shipping orders take approximately 2-3 business days to be processed and shipped out.
