Window balance

Quick Learner from Minnesota
Window balances are non-ribbed u-channel 36 inches long with the number 35e stamped in them. I need to remove the entire side plastic insert after removing both windows to install or remove balances.

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. Your balance appears to be a match for the S770-36. Ours installs with a screw, while yours uses an S-clip, which means this must be a custom order. Can you confirm the number of balances you're looking to order? Note that the stamp we'd be using will be 36E, which is calibrated for a sash weighing 32 to 34 pounds. We recommend you weigh the window sash on a scale to confirm whether it falls within this range.

As for the pivot shoe, take a look at the specifications of the 15-152 and see if they match what you need.

I would need a total of four balances and shoes. I believe the balances would work if the screw mechanism on top were removed and a rivet was placed in the second hole. The sash weighs about 27 lb. The shoes look like they have a square opening, and my required a rectangular opening to accept the part mounted on the window. Would this work?

We'd be happy to supply you with replacement balances, but we have two stamp options for you to choose from: 36C and 36D. The 36C stamp is calibrated for a sash weighing 22 to 27 pounds, and the 36D stamp is calibrated for a sash weighing 27 to 32 pounds. Custom orders are nonrefundable, so it'd be a good idea to get the precise weight of the window sash, down to the ounce.

The cam on your old pivot shoe seems to match ours. If you'd like, you can upload photos of the old pivot bar after it's removed from the window sash, and we can confirm its compatibility for you.

I believe the 36C would be the correct one. I have enclosed the picture of the shoe.

Thank you! Your old pivot bar will fit in our pivot shoe, but instead, we recommend the 15-129 since this has a metal brake. Note that the pivot shoe and short 19-029 S-clip are sold separately, so don't forget to add your needed quantity to your cart.

With that said, I'm going to email you a purchase link for (4) S770-36 (36C) balances with a rivet in the top hole, which you can use to place an order on our website. I know your rivet is in the second hole, but we're only able to supply a rivet in the top hole, and the balance will still work.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
