Window balances

A handy person from Bluffton, SC says:
I need 4 balances of both of the sizes pictured (8 total). I have not been able to identify the window manufacturer. The house was built in 2000 by Centex.

I'm afraid these balances aren't being made anymore, but we can still help.

Before we recommend anything, can you just confirm the exact length for each balance in question? You will need to measure an undamaged balance for each different size you need, since it's next to impossible to determine the proper length from a broken balance.

Basically, you would be using our Series 795 as a replacement. However your old balances came in lengths that ended on a half inch, while our Series 795 comes in lengths that end on a full inch. What you want to do is get the length of your old balance and then round down. That will tell you what Series 795 would work best.

You will also need to weigh your sash to confirm the best stamp option. This indicates spring strength, and since the Series 795 uses a different rating system than your old balance, weighing your sash on a scale is the only way to know what you need.

The old pivot bar won't work with the new style shoe, either, so you will need our 26-021.

Finally (I promise!) you will need a 26-200 screw plug. Since your old balance hooked in at the top with a nylon catch, and our Series 795 screws to the top of the window frame instead, you can just pop the 26-200 in the hole so that you can install the newer style.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
