Window balances on a 1965 house

Home Owner from Bristol VA
Hello, I am moving into a house and I noticed the balances all have a plastic tube and are all shredding. They currently all work, but I wasn't sure of the measurement. I need 12 total. Thanks!

Hello, thank you for posting,

It appears you have an older-style non-tilt spiral balance assembly. They aren't made with the bracket attached to the end of the spiral anymore but either the S400 or S500 spiral balance could work for you, depending on the diameter of the tube needed.

The Series 400 has a 3/8 tube diameter and is compatible with the 17-031 bracket, while the Series 500 has a 5/8" diameter and compatible with the 17-012 bracket.

Confirm the diameter and length of the original tube to determine the best fit.

Once you have the series and length, you will need to choose a colored tip option that indicates the strength of the spring to support the window sash. If the original white tip does not match the options available on the product page, you will need to weigh the window sash and compare to the strength chart to confirm the best option.

Please review and let me know if you have any additional questions!
