Window ballance thingy

Quick Learner from Maine
Hey, I have this ballance that is about 23 years old. The double hung windows open inward and can pop out. They dont stay open so I assume I need to replace it. The rope in the picture is what connects to the bottom of the window. What replacement parts should I get as I can't find these anywhere. The only identifying number is PAT.5.737.877. The length is 25 and 3 quarters inches.

Hey there,

Thanks for posting! Your block and tackle window balance is an older, discontinued Arrow Balance. The good news is that this balance can be replaced with our Series 770 Balance. To determine the correct replacement, I'll need to know the length of an undamaged balance. Given the age of them, I know that may be difficult, so if you aren't able to get the length of an undamaged balance, I'll need to know the height of the visible glass in the window (only the glass you can see).

I'll also need to know how the balance installs at the top of the window. Does it hook into the window or is the balances screwed in?

The last piece of information I'll need is the exact weight of the sash. I'll need to know this determine the stamp option your replacement Series 770 Balances will need.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any other hardware repair questions you might have.

It attaches at the top with a screw through the little plastic thing in the photo I just attached. The visible glass in the pane is 26.5 inches high. I will get the weight in a little while and post again.

Thanks for confirming! You'll need the S770-28 Channel Balance with a 28C stamp option. The shoe in the window channel appears to be the 15-129 Pivot Shoe. I am confident this is the replacement you'll need but be sure to remove the shoe and compare the dimensions to confirm.
