Window not staying up
Looking for advice to either get the balance working that I've got (if possible), or to replace the parts. If replacing, is there one size or how do I measure for different window sizes?
Thanks!
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out to us! The channel balances in your window will need to be replaced. If they are stuck in the down position it is likely because the shoe is broken as well as the pulley system in the balances.
The balances you have here appear to be a plain channel balance with a knife lock shoe attached to the bottom of them, so they will need to be a custom assembly. To ensure we are providing your with the correct configuration for your replacements, I will need to see a photo of an undamaged knife lock shoe removed from the window.
Since the stamp from your channel will not cross-reference with those on our plain channel balances, I will need to know the exact weight of your sash. I'll also need to know the length of the metal channel.
If you are looking to replace the balances in different windows, I'll need to see photos of the shoes from those balances, I'll need to know the length of the channel, and the weight of the sash as well.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.
Thanks!
Yes, the knife lock shoe is the broken, white plastic piece at the bottom of the window. I'll need to see a photo of the details and shape of the shoe to determine exactly which style knife lock shoe your replacement balances would need.
In regard to the channel, the balance channel is the metal piece with the screw at the top; it is the beige/almond colored channel with the 30HD marked on the back of it. I'll need to know the exact length of this channel to confirm the length the replacement would need to be.
I hope this helps!
The weight of the sash was 19.6 lbs. I weighed myself holding the sash, and then without to get that weight.
Anything else please let me know.
Thanks!
Thanks for the photos! From what I can see of the shoe in the photo, it looks like you have an older, discontinued knife lock shoe. Unfortunately, our 15-014, which is the shoe that comes assembled on our balances, would not be interchangeable with your shoe.
Our sincerest apologies that we cannot be of more help with this repair but please don't hesitate to reach out with any other hardware repair questions you might have.
