Window triple coil balance
Hello,
Your pivot shoe resembles the 17/32" thick 15-199 shown below. If the dimensions match up to yours, you would need either the 1/2" wide Series 160 or 3/8" wide Series 165 depending on the size of the original coil springs.
There should be numbers stamped on the base of the coil springs that you'll use to choose the corresponding strength options. If not, you'll need to weigh the window sash and divide the weight by the number of coils on each side to choose the corresponding strength options. Thank you!
1.) First Coil- #5.0 43" P14155 ( the last 5 is questionable as it is faded )
2.) Second coil ( does not have the first part with #5.0 and 43" or it has faded off) P5232208
Will be weighing sashes as well just to be sure. If each side has a triple coil , would the weight be divided by 6?
The #5 stamp indicated that you have a 5-pound coil strength. If the stamp has worn off of some of the coils, I would recommend dividing the sash weight by 6 to confirm the correct strength options for your replacements.
The 43" indicates the travel length of the coil. Unfortunately, the longer travel length is no longer available but our replacements can still work for you. If the travel length is a problem, you may need to adjust the placement of the coils in the window jamb to compensate for the travel difference.
The travel length is not something that you need to measure. If you are not able to install the balance in the same position as the original assembly, we recommend making a new installation hole just below where the tilt latch sits when the sash is closed. That was it will not interfere with the functionality of the window.
