broken balance spring

Quick Learner from Jamestown Rhode Isalnd
Hello - Balance spring broke on the right side channel of window - broken-off spring remnant is shown in third picture. The lower sash is too heavy to raise so we have to keep it closed. The pictures of the intact elements are on the left side channel and seem to be OK, but we would everything on replace both sides. Our window did not have a recess to remove the parts, so our handyman cut a recess to extract them. What parts should we order? We do not see any brand name on anything. Thanks! Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for reaching out to us! Your balances are assembled using the 15-177 Coil Balance Shoe and the Series 152 Coil Balance. The 33-072 screw is used to secure the coil to the shoe. I am confident these are the correct replacement but be sure to look over the dimensions below.

To determine which coils are needed for the assembly, you'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the metal. Take a look at the video tutorial below for instructions on choosing the assembly you need.

The 15-143 Coil Bushing, 15-144 Coil Bushing Cap, and 15-145 Coil Support Barrel can be used to replace the covers.
