broken right channel guide

Home Owner from Myrtle Creek, Oregon
The right channel guide cord is broken and the  right top sash guide is broken. Also the right take out clip is bent and needs replaced. The number stamp on the right and left channel guides is the same. The window weight is about 15 pounds. Do you think I should replace both channel guides?

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. We're happy to look into this. Can you measure the bottom shoe as shown below? The depth should be 1" or a little over 1".

We would also like to see an image of the inside of the balance’s metal channel, where the innerspring connects to the pulley mechanism; this connection is located in the middle of the channel.

As for the top sash guide, could you remove an undamaged version from the sash and show us? For a new take out clip, see the 16-002.

The depth of the bottom shoe measures just over 1 inch (probably 1 1/16 inch).

Attached are 4 pictures of the left top sash guide removed with a ruler showing the sizes.  Also attached is 1 picture of the left spring and center pulley removed.I couldn't remove the left side take out clip but the bent right one seems a perfect match to your part number 16-002.

Thank you kindly for getting back to us. Your balance has a special blue washer that connects the spring and pulley mechanism, which our stock balances lack. I know that may seem like a minor detail, but it's very important. Due to this special spring connection, this will have to be a custom order.

Now, I noticed some damage at the top of the window sash where the top sash guide installs. I'm not sure if this is because of the vinyl becoming brittle over the years or if the old balance's spring strength is too strong. With that said, can you weigh the window sash and tell us the precise weight? I know you said it weighs about 15 pounds, but custom orders are nonrefundable, so we must be thorough.

Additionally, can you confirm if the top fitting has wings like the bottom fitting?

As for the top sash guide, the 18-171 looks like a match, but review the specifications and see what you think.

with the scale I have 15 pounds is as close as I can weigh the sash.  I'm not sure what you mean by the "top and bottom fittings"?

addendum to previous post.  I removed a good window of the same size.  The sash measures 34 1/2" wide x 28 3/4" high x 1 5/16" deep and weighs 16 pounds. Top and bottom fittings both have wings and the spring pulley has the blue washer. All channel guides have the same numbers of
26-3 DO (0?) 5 CMC 43  I hope this is enough information to generate a parts order.  The windows are in a Palm Harbor manufactured home produced in the spring of 2019

Thank you! I'll email you a purchase link for (2) of these 26-3 balances. Two of these balances with the 26-3 stamp can support a sash weighing 13 to 18.99 pounds. Please note that there is a 5-6 week lead time.

Note that the 18-171 top sash guide and 16-002 take out clip can't be included in this purchase link, so don't forget to add your needed quantity to your cart separately.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Thankyou for your assistance. I've placed order and will let you know when order received and job is complete.  Luckily the window is still usable with the left sash guide still useable.

No problem. Good luck with the repair!

Received the parts yesterday and completed the job in about 20 minutes. The hardest part was re-hanging the dual curtains and top valence. Thank you for all of you assistance.  A very happy 87 year old home owner
