cant find window spring part

A home owner from St. Augustine, FL says:
metal siding that houses the spring on both sides of the window to raise and lower it. On the end of the metal siding (3 solid sides, 4th side is open) are plastic pieces to attach to the window. My father in law will install it, but I am tasked with finding the part:) The measurements are 28 7/8 of metal. If you include the plastic piece, there it is 1/4 inches longer on one end and 3/4 of an inch longer on the other.
The window weighs 23.4 pounds.

Thanks for the information! I'm having a little trouble visualizing what you describe, though. I know you're looking for a window balance, but there are a lot of varieties that match your description. Could I see a few pictures of it? That would help us find the best match. Please make sure your pictures show both ends of the balance. Thanks!

Take a look at our S380-29 channel balance and see if this is a match. Make sure the nylon caps on both ends have the same dimensions. I also recommend a 2840 stamp option. Two balances with this option can carry a sash weight of 23 through 28 pounds.
