Champion coil balance identification

Professional from Whiteland, In.
got a stumper here. all markings on the coil balances are letters and no numbers. On the springs, there is a "C L". On one side of the balance there's a "B" (see pic) on the reverse side there is a "2" on one and a "4" on the other, still no numbers(see pic).In the pic that shows the white portions, there is a row of letters from A to F. The estimated weight of sash is about 18 lbs. if you need more info, please contact me.

I agree, those stamps don't really make a lot of sense. I think we can safely dismiss them as molding marks and not stamps indicative of spring strength.

Assuming that your sash is precisely 18 pounds, then you would divide that by the number of springs supporting it to find the right calibration; in your case, 4. The problem is that this gives you an uneven number (4.5). I recommend getting the exact weight of the sash instead of estimating it. You don't want to guess for that kind of thing.

Once you have the actual sash weight, divide it by 4 and see what you get. If none of the calibrations available will do just let me know and we can think of another solution.

The parts in question would be our 15-177 pivot shoe and Series 152 coil spring.
