i am looking for what i believe is called a sash balance, or saah lift mechanism for this window. there is a patent number on the side of the part, that reads #5w37877. the part consists of a fiberclass, or plastic rod, that runs down the inside of a coil spring, and connects to the block that the pin on the bottom of the sASH LOCKS INTO. THERE IS A STRING ON THE TOP, THAT CREATES A BLOCK AND TACKLE EFFECT FOR RAISING AND LOWERING.

This part is called a balance, yes. You have a particular rod-type balance that was discontinued a few years ago. Fortunately, we have a solution.
Before I recommend anything, can you just check the diameter of the spring? If it's 1/2" then you can use our Series 795 as a substitute. The process of converting this for use in your window is a little involved, though, so I highly recommend watching the video below for a step by step guide
