mysterious shoe damage

A home owner from North Carolina says:

I've been buying the Series 795 for three years, repairing and upgrading the shoes on my windows. I've bought several different sizes and strengths.

But the shoes are cracking in the two places shown in the attached photo. What's causing that?

Hmm... the only time I've came across one of these T-Lock shoes breaking like this when we installed a balance to replace something that was similar, but not exactly the same, as our Series 795. It turned out to be a different kind of balance. Could that be the case here? If you happen to have one of the originals on hand to show us, we can say for sure.

Can you also tell me if they're cracking as you operate the window up and down?

A home owner from North Carolina says:
The photo's hopefully show the old style of sash balance that was fitted ( Patriot ) to all of the windows in my home ..subsequently replaced by the Swisco Series 79. As you will see in the attached photo's the old balance shoes broke in the same place as the new ones have. The shoes broke when the window was static .i.e. not being opened or closed. We do not open the windows in my home.

Ah! I see now. The shoe was incorrect. You would need the Series 795 balance, and then you'd need to replace the bottom shoe with the 15-195B, shown below. There's a video to show you this incredibly simple swap. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I used the 795 balance ? see my order history beginning in 2014 with order # 569261, the balances that I ordered came complete with shoes, those are the ones that now beginning to fail, two sets so far ? I'm expecting the others to follow in similar fashion.
The photo's that I sent are of the old style balance and shoe. In my original e-mail I sent a photo of a broken shoe that was supplied with the 795 balance. The attached photo is the one that I sent originally, I. e. a shoe from the replacement series 795 balance.

I recommend reading over  Paul's response back on the 13th. The shoe that comes with the Series 795 by default does not match yours. That has a closed cam, but you have an open cam. We recommend our 15-195B, which is sold separately.

Casey from SWISCO responded:

Hi, I am guessing because the pivot bar may have been too tight in the opening, thus having an "open cam" the pivot can pass through the pivot shoe a touch more than the "closed cam".

And, by the looks of it, your original pivot shoes had an "open cam", so hopefully this will solve the pivot shoe damage problem.

A home owner from North Carolina says:
Thanks for the information. Why would a difference of open or closed cam cause the breakage ???.
