putting window back in after replacing pivot shoe

Handy Person from Massachusetts

I got Pivot Shoe, 1/2" Thick Product Code: 15-046, and used the cut out method to replace. The problem is I am having a hard time putting the windows back in. When I turn the pivot shoe insert 90 degrees on both sides to insert the window, the pivot shoe locking mechanism won't let them slide to attach the other side. Is there a trick to this?

Thanks

Jim

Hey Jim. There's no trick to this honestly, it's more about just putting the pivot bars in at an angle, one leg first and then the other. See if the video below, which shows how to replace spiral balances, helps you, since this step is covered.

I had watched the video before, the problem is that w/ the new pivot shoe locks engaged, you can't move one side of the window to get it back to level and then close the window. I found a solution that can be shared if others are having this issue. I took the lock piece off the pivot shoe and sanded it down a little. Now when I install the pivot shoe, it will move up/down so I can get the window back in.
Thanks

Thank you so much! This video helped! When you're coming in in the other side, you have to go in at an angle anyways. If you line up the other shoe with where you're bringing in the window, you should be able to pop it right in.

Thank you!
