question re determining coil balance weight

Handy Person from Chicago
Hi

I need to replace some parts on 20+ year old Window World vinyl tilt windows--a few coil balance shoes and a few coil balances.

I know that the shoes are Slate Blue 15-177, which matches up with my existing.

The coil balance is S-152, which also matches up with my existing.

My question: what weight do I choose? The existing has 5K stamped on it. The window weight is 16 lbs. There are two coil balances on each side, but wasn't sure if that means I should replace with two 4 pound coil balances for each side (ie, 4x4=16), or two 8 pound coil balances for each side.

thanks

Hello there. If the window weighs exactly 16 pounds, you can just the S152-8 8 pound spring, one on each side of the sash. The number of coils isn't as important as hitting that exact sash weight, so this will work just fine (and be easier to install). Let me know if you have further questions.
