replacement balance parts
Trying to find replacement window balances for my double hung bathroom window. The sashes rotate to be removed. The following is etched on the balance as shown in pictures: db102 14 reg
They don't seem easily removable. I have not attempted yet.
Your balance resembles our Series 751, but I'm not familiar with that stamp. I recommend measuring the metal channel first to determine the length, then visit that size in our catalog. You will see a chart that lists exactly how much weight each of our stamp options supports. All you would have to do is weigh your sash and pick accordingly.
Also note that the Series 751 has a ribbed metal channel. I can't quite tell if yours is ribbed or not, so that's something to keep an eye on, too.
As for removal, you may find the video below to be helpful.
The way this is all installed, I think I'll have to remove part of the frame as unfortunately it doesn't seem as simple as your instruction video.
Thank you for your help.
Gotcha, thanks for confirming. So, we should still be able to supply this balance, but if that metal channel is plain then this will have to be custom made.
Right now I'm tentatively looking at our Series 770, but with the bottom metal tab swapped out for our 15-014. Does that look good to you? Note that the Series 770 installs at the top of the window using a screw.
At this stage I would need to know the length of the metal channel and the exact weight of the sash that it supports; that will allow me to calculate how the spring ought to be calibrated. That old stamp of yours is really, really strange. Ordinarily we could just use that to determine spring calibration but that won't be possible here. Knowing the precise sash weight is the only way forward.
We will also need to know how many you required. I assume you just needed 2 for this sash but I don't want to guess, just in case.
Lastly, concerning removal, I have seen some cases where it's necessary to take the frame apart. It's unfortunate but it does happen. Some manufacturers drop the balance into the jamb from above before completely sealing in the jamb. There's no easy way around this, though. Like you said, partial disassembly of the entire window frame may be necessary. If you aren't familiar with that kind of project then I highly recommend contacting a local professional to do it for you.
Perfect, thank you so much! I'll be here to help whenever you can get that data for me.
The existing ended up being plain but the ribbed fit just fine.
