replacement counter balance
Thanks for writing in. I'm in fact not convinced that your balance's bottom nylon shoe had wings that flare out, like the top nylon fitting clearly does. Is there an undamaged version of this balance that you can check to confirm? If the bottom nylon shoe resembles our 15-001, then you need what we call our S395-27. Just confirm that the metal channel, not including the nylon fittings, is 27" long.
Once you know what balance you need, you'll need to select a stamp option. Your stamp code of 26 9 is from an older rating system we no longer use. The best thing to do is to weigh your window sash. You can then match that exact weight with one of the weight ranges listed alongside each stamp option on the product page. Many thanks.
To answer Bob's questions I got some help removing and replacing my windows, and the results are as follows:
I need qty 4 counterbalances as follows:
- stamping as found : 26 9 34.1 # caldwell
- Counterbalance channel length: 27"
- Window weight : 31 lbs
- Window dimensions : 45 1/2 wide x 28 3/4 tall
I need qty 2 counterbalances as follows:
- stamping as found : 26 4 AN caldwell
- Counterbalance channel length: 27"
- Window weight : 24 lbs
- Window dimensions : 33 1/2 wide x 28 3/4 tall
I need qty 2 counterbalances as follows:
- stamping as found : 20 4 DN caldwell
- Counterbalance channel length: 21"
- Window weight : 18 lbs
- Window dimensions : 45 1/2 wide x 23 tall
The Top Guides are 15p142 (winged) , Bottom Gudes 15p 102 (winged) (Please see all photos submitted previously as well). I will also need Qty 10 sash guide as shown in the second picture attached here.
Hopefully we can move forward now to identify and order the counterbalances.
Thanks for the reply, and for all the thorough information! So assuming all these channel balances have the same winged nylon fittings, you will need either our Series 380 or Series 385 Channel Balances for each set. The only difference between these two balance Series is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, so compare both with your old hardware to see what matches best. You will need to compare both with your old hardware to see what matches best.
This is what you will need for each set:
- For the balances stamped 26 9, you will need either the S380-27 or S385-27. For a window that weighs 31 lbs, you will need a stamp option of 2660.
- For the balances stamped 26 4, you will again need either the S380-27 or S385-27. You will need a stamp option of 2640.
- For the balances stamped 20 4, you will need either the S380-21 or S385-21. You will need a stamp option of 2040.
For the Top Sash Guide, can you remove it from the window and show us 'mugshot pictures' of the front and side? That will help narrow down the proper replacement. Many thanks.
