Handle snapped off a REALLY old sliding door that I have no idea what brand it is. Been here for 20 plus years. We are going to replace it next year but want a temporary handle on each side I can install. I do care about the locking mechanism.. will go old fashion route until door replacement. I do not want to use the current holes to attached the out door and indoor handle because they are very warn and it will be loose. The current ones are 4 inches apart. I want to drill new holes that are about 5 inches apart to install the handles. Any suggestions?

I think the 82-005 surface-mount handle set would be ideal. This has a built-in lock, so there's no need to worry about the inner door components. It needs a hole spacing of 4-15/16", which is right in the ballpark you're suggesting. See what you think.
