spring from window
Thank you
Thanks for posting, and thanks for your patience during your busy season. We can help you replace this crossbow balance; to know where to begin, can you show us a picture of the shoe at the bottom of the balance? This is the part that window sash 'tilts' from. That would help narrow down what you need, and also the correct procedure for removal and replacement. Many thanks.
Thanks for getting back to me. That's what I needed to see. This old crossbow balance can be replaced by our Series 795 Channel Balances. See the video below for details. For your screen pins, look at our section here and see if one of these pins is a good match.
Thank you
Thanks for your patience during this busy season. It would be best to replace both balances; in general I would strongly advise against having (1) crossbow balance and (1) channel balance in the same window. But also, when one balance fails, usually the other in the pair isn't far behind, so it would be to your benefit to replace both.
As far as pivot bars like our 26-021 or 26-366, they can be purchased directly from our online store. If you need help picking out the right pivot bar, just show us pictures of your old pivot bar out of the window. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Ahh, apologies. I thought you were talking about the pivot bars, or the die-cast pins that attach the balance to the window sash, that go with the Series 795 Channel Balances. Pardon my error. Your screen pins are an entirely different matter. Review our 70-008 and 70-009. Go over the dimensions and see if one more closely matches what you need.
No worries! Sorry for confusing you this far. Let's circle back and take this item-by-item.
- Your old crossbow balances can be replaced by our Series 795 Channel Balances. The video I posted above details this procedure.
- You are correct: the pivot bars are the pins sticking out of the bottom of the window sash that fit into the pivot shoes. Yes, these must be ordered separate form the balances themselves. You will need new pivot bars that fit into your new channel balances. At the 2:30 mark in the video above, this process is illustrated. You will need to remove your old pivot bars and see if their and screw hole spacing is closer to our 26-021 or our 26-366.
- Now, for screen pins. I think either the 70-008 or 70-009 are our closest matches; whether one of these will work for you is going to come down to dimensions. If you open the shop pages of both pins, you'll see the diameter of the cap and overall length of the pin is listed. For the 70-008, the cap has a 7/32" diameter. For the 70-009, the cap diameter is 5/32". Measure your old pin's diameter and see if one of these matches. If you have any problems, give us the dimensions of your old pin.
Sorry again for the confusion, but hope this helps!
