tilt latch for 1978 house

Quick Learner from Knoxville, TN
I need replacement latches for multiple windows. They are for oringinal tilt windows with a metal frame from a house built in 1978. The latches are currently white but I would prefer black. I have seen models that appear to match except for the opening on the plastic comes down over the edge. Mine has an opening, not a hole. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Your drawing looks like our 26-089P. Look it over and see what you think.

26-089P is similar but not what we need. Please take a look at the side view end and notice the arch shape on the end extention. The arch allows the end of the tilt latch to be inserted into a slot and over a screw in the window. Without that arch the part will not go into the window slot. The screw gets into the way. Thank you for your help.

I think I see what you mean. I have been unable to find anything like that, however. is there any way we can see a couple pictures of the part itself? Illustrations help, but there are often little details that can only be seen in photographs that give us clues about what can be done.

Ah, I see. That leg appears damaged. Are you sure the "U" opening is not just a broken screw hole? If you look at the side of the sash, see if there is a screw there with the rest of the nylon leg. It would explain why we have not been able to find such a configuration.

Looks like that is the problem.
I took out over eleven, 11, and finally found a piece that still had the bottom screw hole attached.
I am going to order one set and try it.

Great! Glad to hear they match. As for the screw holes, they come out very small from the die maker. When you install the screw they will widen for it.
