window channel balance

A home owner from Dana Point, CA says:
Hello, I'm trying to figure out what part to order to replace my window channel balance. The string broke, so if I can just re-weave a new string into there, that would be good to know.

The channel portion is 27" long (just the metal part, not including the plastic end). The stamp on the left side (the one that broke) is "26 4 LU CMC 1". The stamp on the right is "26 4 TU CMC 7".

If I need to order a new channel balance, it is my understanding that I should order two, and replace both sides at the same time.

This is a mid to late 1970's house but I haven't been living here long, so I don't know any history on these windows or their parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

We'd be happy to help but we would need to see detailed photos of the fittings attached to both ends of your metal balance channel to compare to our inventory.

You are also correct that we recommend replacing both balances at the same time so that the sash is equally supported on both sides. We do not recommend trying to replace the pulley cord since these balances are under a lot of tension and can cause injury if they are tampered with. Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to us. It looks like you have either our S351-27, with a 15-002 bottom attachment, or S390-27, with a 15-001 bottom attachment. Take a look at the image below to determine which balance you'll need. You'll also need a 2640 spring strength option for your replacement balances. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the quick reply! It looks like the 1 1/8" S390 should do the trick.
