wood window balance

A quick learner from Cedar Lake IN says:
I have an old wooden double hung window. The spring balance on the bottom sash is broken on one side. I need to replace the balances. The window measures 20 inches top to bottom and is 28 inches wide. it weights 8 pounds. There is a channel routed out on each side that is 5/8 inch wide. I was thinking about the Series 400 20" with a #13 bracket. I am very open to suggestions and advise.

Hello,

We'd be happy to help but we would need to see a photo of an undamaged balance removed from the window to confirm the best replacement option. I can say that many older wood windows use are 5/8" diameter S500 spiral balance but we'll need to see yours and you'll need to measure the tube to confirm. I'll also relate a helpful guide to assist you. Thank you!
