32" channel balance

Home Owner from Birmingham, AL
I'm trying to find a replacement channel balance. The overall length is 32 inches and the only markings i can find on it is, 320 PB BSI (see photo). Can you ID this part?

Thanks for posting. I believe that stamp might read 32C. Can you check the other balance in this window, or a balance from an identical window in the house, to confirm? Either way that stamp just tells us the strength of the balance, which is necessary to know--but it doesn't tell us its identity. To know that, I need to see whatever hook, fitting, shoe or attachment is connected to the bottom of this balance. I also need to see whatever is at the top of the balance, or (assuming this is a balance for a tilt window) how this balance attaches to the top of the window jamb. We should be able to narrow this down from there.

You are correct, the markings on the channel is 32C. I have also attaxhed two photos showing the shoe and upper channel fittings.

Perfect, thank you! This looks like a match for our Series 795 channel balance. This appears to be identical except for one key detail: your balance installs using a hook at the top rather than a screw. That may become an issue, but it depends on the makeup of your window.

You may be able to still use our Series 795 as-is, without modification, using our 26-200 screw plug. I highly recommend watching the video below for more information. You'll note that the 26-200 screw plug only works on certain windows; if you have the kind of window that uses a round hole, rather than square, this won't be a viable option. Get back to me if that's the case and we can work from there.

The hook on my current channel balance is attached to the cord by a knot (see attached phots). Can't i simply attach the hook the same way to your Series 795 channel balance?

Sure, you can absolutely do that if you want to. Many of our customers prefer if we provide that service for them, so we like to offer it up front. If you don't mind doing the work then by all means, feel free. The hook we use is the 15-198.

Just make sure to secure the cord in a bench vice before you untie it. These are under constant pressure, so if it slips out of your grip it will shoot back into the channel. This can shatter the clip, depending on tension, so make sure to wear safety gloves and goggles, too.
