Acorn tilt-in pivot shoe replacement

Home Owner from Colorado
Hi,

I need to replace the pivot shoes on our Acorn single-hung tilt-in aluminum windows. I know I'll have to remove the lower sash to do this. The pivot shoes look like either the 15-046 or the 15-121. With this style of shoe, do the pivot bars have to be removed in order to remove the lower sash?

Thanks,
Norm

Thanks for posting. You shouldn't have to remove the pivot bars before-hand in order to remove the lower sash. They should be screwed into the lower sash, and come out when it comes out.

Take a look at our tutorial video on how to replace a tilt window spiral balance, which shows how to remove the lower sash of this type of window.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply.

I imagine I'm doing something wrong. I tried twisting the sash as shown in the video, and cracked the cam on one of the pivot shoes. The pivot bars are like the 26-040, and are held in a slot at the bottom of the sash with a single screw. There isn't much wiggle room where the pivot bar fits into the cam.

After looking closer at the pivot shoes, they actually don't look like the 15-046 or 15-121. I've attached a picture. In size, the width is about 1-9/32" (just a bit over 1-1/4"), height is 2-1/8", and thickness is 9/16". The opening in the cam for the pivot bar is 5/16" x 3/16". The only marking is "PAT. 3,055,062". If you could suggest a replacement, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Norm

Thanks for the additional picture, Norm. Please see our 15-015 pivot shoe. Do you think this might be a better replacement?

Hi Paul, thanks for the suggestion. It looks like the dimensions I have are pretty close to the 15-015 and the 15-121. I may order a few of each and see which fits better.
