Blance Question

Quick Learner from The villages Florida
My balance does not match any of the numbers you show. My balance is for a CWS window made in Ocala Florida. only markings on it are 28 5 odBSI. it is 28 inches long. Your balance
S380-28 matches the ends of my balance just not sure of the weight of the springs. It is a non tilting window.

Hi there, thanks for the inquiry. To start, I would double check the length of your balance. Measure just the metal, not including the top or bottom attachments. Your "28 5" marking indicates the weight of your balance and typically corresponds with a 29" balance. So, if you believe you need the Series 380, look over the S380-29 with the 2850 stamp option. I would also check the depth of the bottom shoe to be sure it measures 1" (our Series 385 balance has a very similar shoe that measures 1-3/32")

If you are having any doubts, feel free to send us photos of your balance and we'd be happy to assist further.

It is peculiar that a balance stamped with "28" is 28" long. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but that's just how balance manufacturers  make them. That said, it's possible that whoever installed these had to cut a 29" balance down for whatever reason. It happens all the time.

With that in mind, you should probably stick to 28". However you'll need to decide what the new stamp will be, since a 28" balance uses a different stamp rating system than yours. I highly recommend weighing your sash on a scale to confirm the best option. We have a chart on the S385-28 store page that will tell you exactly what option to pick based on your sash weight.
