Broken coil balance springs
Part # 80102
# 6.5 35" P
my coil springs are 1/2" which matches s-160....I believe I need the 6.5# ones? Are there two or four per window....mine are broken up in pieces and I'm not sure how many to order.
thanks
Coil balances generally use between one and three coils on each side. If you're not sure how many coils the window used originally, we'll need you to confirm the exact weight of the sash that the balances support. That will help us determine the corresponding springs needed to support the sash.
Is the weight of the springs equal to weight of window? My springs have #6.5...which if one per side would be 13#?...so the window would be 13# and would require two spring....if the window was 26# then it would require four 6.5# springs?
thanks for your help
You are correct that your photos show a cover for two coil springs but it sounded like you were unsure if that was the correct configuration so we like to cover all of our bases. You are correct that one 6.5 coils on each side would support a 13-pound sash and two 6.5 coils on each side would support 26 pounds.
For a 22.7-pound sash, I would actually recommend using two S160-05 coils on each side. The 6.5-pound coils would be too strong for your sash weight.
