Coil Balance inquiry

Attached are pictures of the coil balance for my window. These pictures are from my window that weighs 23lbs. I also have another window that weighs 18lbs. and has the same problem where the coils have broken. The coils have broken on both sides of the windows.

The plastic cover and the shoe are intact and I believe I need to replace the coils only.

Which coils and how many of each do I need for the 23lb window and which do I need for for the 18lb window? I'm assuming the weight is distributed across the four coils (2 on each side) is that correct?

he width of the coil is 1/2 inch and max length is 35 ". Can you recommend based on this and what weight? For example can I get four coils at 6 pounds each for 23 pound window?

Thanks for posting. Good deductions on your part. This is a 15-199 Pivot Shoe and 1/2" thick Series 160 Coil Balances. Be sure you have the exact weights of the window sash. 

If the 23 pound window sash does weigh exactly 23 pounds, then you could do (4) of the S160-05 5.5 pound springs, a pair of springs for each side of the sash--this will give you 11 pounds of support on either side, for a total of 22 pounds. Being within 1 pound of the exact sash weight works just fine. That is why you want to be certain of the precise weight, however. If the sash weighs a little over 23 pounds, you should instead use the S160-05 5.5 pound spring and S160-06 6.5 pound spring on both sides of the sash. That would give you 12 pounds of support on both sides, for a total of 24 pounds overall.

For the 18 pound sash, you can actually use just (2) of the S160-09 9 pound springs, one for each side of the sash. That will equal 18 pounds total. 

If your old coil housing is undamaged, you can reuse it--otherwise, use the 15-150D Double Supports for the 23 pound sash, and then the 15-150S single supports for the 18 pounder. Let me know if you have further questions.
