Coil balance spring and shoe for Wintech DH_R40 vinyl window

Quick Learner from 29464
Replaced glass in 3 windows. Coils no longer working perhaps because they are 18+years old and new glass is heavier.

We should be able to help. Before we recommend anything, can you tell me the exact weight of the new sash?

Hi Tom
Thanks for your reply. We were away for over a week or I would have responded sooner.

I got 3 identical new window panes installed and that is when all the coils stopped working and the windows would not stay up. The sashes with the new panes weigh 21 lbs. each. One prior sash with a pane weighed 18lbs. So let me know what we can do. Thanks

Great, thank you! So, your shoe looks like our 15-180, which works with the Series 190 coil spring. It also looks like you're only using one spring on each side, which makes me think that they were rated for 9 pounds of support each based on your old sash weight.

With your new sash weight, we don't have a spring that can carry enough weight if you use just one on each side. You may need to bump it up to having two on each side, instead. Consider our S190-540, which can carry 5 pounds; two of these on each side would give you 20 overall pounds of support. We also have the S190-640, which will give you 24 overall pounds of support when you use two on each side. Neither is perfectly 21 pounds, but those are your best options. I would also recommend a new detent clip to accommodate the extra spring. See our 15-181.

Hi Tom:
Thank you for the info. Sorry I was not able to get back to you sooner.
Is it possible to use the Series 160 coil for this sash ? The reason is that the 160 has 5.5lb springs which in tandem would give 22 lbs. That is closer than the 24 lb 190-640 series. I would rather be over by one lb than 3 lbs. I would worry about the 20lb 540 series not being enough.
The sash weighs 21 lbs and is 30" high. The coil is 1/2" and the track is 1 1/2" wide. Would need 2 shoes and 2 double support detent clips aks coil holders. Maybe 2 brushings ? Jerry

I'm not sure if the Series 140 will work in your sash. If you want, you can use one S190-540 and one S190-640 on each side. This would give you 22 pounds, as well.

Thank you Paul and Tom for helping me out on this. You guys did a GREAT job! I ordered the suggested parts yesterday for one of the 3 windows. I will see how that works out.
