Thanks for posting! Your operator looks like it could be either our 39-253LB and 39-253RB or our 39-438B and 39-439B. The difference between these two operators is the attachment connected to the end of the straight arm. The video below explains, in detail, how to determine which of the operators you have.
They are both compatible with the 39-375 and 39-376 folding cover and handles as well as the 39-451 and 39-452 non-folding cover and handles.
No need to apologize! I'm happy to answer your questions. You shouldn't need to remove the sash or cut into to remove this operator. You should be able to remove the arms from the window (as shown in the video) and then you'll remove the screws from the base of the operator (which should be visible).
Once you have this hardware detached from the bottom of the window and the window sill, you should be able to re-orient the arms of the operator so that you can pull them through the opening in the sill.
