Jeld-wen builders vinyl balances replacement

Handy Person from dover, nh
Hello,

I'm looking for replacement balances for 2 windows. The balances marks says 26H and 26G (see attached photo) however those are not available in your store as far I see., from the other jhand weight of the window matches different balances codes based on your
listing. Note that windows are heavier than balances length would indciate since those are three pane windows.

Can someone please explain what to order based on the attached photos?

Window 1:
26H, 14.4LB, photos starts with 1_*

Window 2:
26G, 17 LB, photos starts with 2_*

Shoes:
same on both windows see photos 3_*

Thanks for posting. Let's take this step by step. Can you confirm that the length of the metal channel of both sets of balances is 26", not including the T-Lock Shoe? If 14.4 lbs and 17 lbs are the exact weights of each sash, then you'd be fine opting for the stamp option of 26B in both cases. However, I would confirm that these are the exact weights to be safe; it would be pretty unusual to have these stamp codes indicating a heavy sash weight, when your reported window sash weights falling well within conventional ranges. By any chance, did you ever have trouble keeping your windows closed before this, or would they pop open?

My only other concern is the hook at the top of your balances. Can you show us a picture of the hole at the top of the window track that your balance hooks to? This will determine whether or not we need to make up balances for you that have this hook. Many thanks.

Hello, thank you for the follow up.

1)

the length is 26" (not including the lock), I opened and zoomed attached photo to confirm it as I don't have hardware

in front of me.

2) I weighted the sashes just before posting so those are actual numbers.

3) Those are exact issues I'm having with the windows actually, they work hard both ways, however I think it's harder to close them in than open them up.

I believe Jeld-Wen installed wrong balances and I'm quite disappointed with their windows on top of it in general however this would be a separe story. So i would agree with 26B as being a good fit for the windows.

4) There is a tension cord with a hook at the top, i will confirm size when I reach my home (something like yours 62-106) and I think I cam male hooks hole bigger if need be. In the meantime I want to confirm whether you can provided balance completely assembled with tension cors, hook, balance and t-lock being attached together?

Product Code: 15-198" should work with windows hook's holes, per attached photos my approx. measurement show 0.26". 15-198 clips should match that.

I think I need 4x SERIES 795 26B's, 4 clips (15-198), and 4 compatible T-Lock Shoes (Im not sure which ones as yet), everything assembled, I specifically want hooks string securely attached to the balances.

Please advise on the final order per whole email thread.

Regards

Dan

Thanks for getting back to me. If those are indeed the sash weights, then you're right, the the S795-26 with a stamp option of 26B sounds correct. Now, as far as this hook on top of your balance, this may actually not be necessary. I am fairly confident you can insert our 26-200 screw plug into that top hole. It's possible you might have to file the edges of the hole a bit to do this, but it may honestly work fine. You can then screw-in the top of our standard Series 795 balance into this screw plug, thus avoiding the need for any custom-built balance.

The remaining detail to attend to is to make sure you know what T-Lock shoe you need. If your old T-Lock shoe matches the specifications of the 15-195, then this comes installed by default with the Series 795, and nothing else is necessary. The other T-Lock Shoes commonly used are the 15-195B Open Cam T-Lock Shoe, and the 15-194 1" T-Lock Shoe. If you need one of these, you can swap it out with the shoe that comes with your new balances. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,

per emal thread. I just installed the balances they fit the window and frame however balances are too weak and could not keep window in place.

Saying that it looks like I got the weight wrong I took weight in kilograms instead of pounds. Can you please advise what to order for 37.5 pound weight I need same Series S795-26 balance a bit stronger, though. Would it be 26F? Maybe 26E would be fine those go to children bedrooms I wouldn't want them to move too hard. That was the problem with the original ones if the first place.

Thanks for the reply. So if your sash weighs exactly 34 lbs, then use the S795-26 with a new stamp option we have introduced for you, the 26F. Just keep in mind that this stamp isn't the same as your old balance, as we're going strictly off the weight you've given us. If there are any issues, just let us know. Many thanks.

Okay, I ordered those and second pair of 26E for another sash weighting 31.7lb.

I understand that 26E is rated for up to 30lb I hope 26E will still keep sash in place when window is opened however it will allow for easier closing since springs will be weaker on it. Let me know if that assumption is right or not, though. I'm willing to test this out if we are on the verge with balance usability here.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I understand. We've added the stamp option 26F to accommodate your window sash's weight of more than 31.7 lbs. This is what we recommend you try using. 26E is meant for a weight range up to 30 lbs. The weight ranges for these stamp options are very precisely and strictly calibrated; any weight outside of them will not work for your window. In your case, most likely you would have trouble keeping the window open. This is why we added the 26F option for you.

I have two different windows / sashes to fix. the second one is 31.7lb. per my earlier email do you think that 26e will not definitely work with the other sash with 31.7 lb weight? Again im hoping for easier closing and im fine with using more force to open them. The original jeldwen balances are working too hard to be closed by my 10 years old children.

Balances don't really work like this. It's not a matter of choosing one stronger or weaker to influence the movement of the window one way or the other. If it's not the right spring calibration for your window's weight range, quite simply it will not function correctly.
