Parts for Alliance Windows

Landlord from Mattawan, MI

Hello, I'm look for parts for Alliance Windows. The windows are approximately 20 - 21 years old. Have attached a photo of a label I found on the window. CAR# 116-104,

Model Windgate / Belmont Single Hung, Rating H-R20 44x60. Some of the windows are 44x60 others are 18x60. The Window Tilt Latch has a part number of 5,139,291. I did not see any markings on the Pivot Lock Shoes or the Coil Balance. I will only need 1 set of the Window Tilt Latch. I will be needing quite a few of the of the Pivot Lock Shoes and Coil Balances. Thanks

Hello! Starting with your coil balance assembly, my recommendation is our 15-177 pivot shoe and Series 152 coil spring (sold separately). These match your old parts fairly well and I think will replace them without issue. Note that you can reuse your old cover, which is an obsolete design; if you wanted to replace that anyway, just let me know.

As for the tilt latch, my top recommendation is the 26-243 and 26-244 (also sold separately). I just recommend reviewing our dimensions to confirm that they all line up.

Regarding the coil spring. You suggest Series 152. Would you recommend the 4 ib or the 6 lb? Some of the windows are 44x60 others are 18x60. Thanks

Your old springs should have numbers printed on them to help you decide. It will be printed not far from the end of the tab, where the screw hole is.

If there are no stamps, or if they're too faded to read, then you will need to get the weight of your sash. Size alone won't be enough to calculate weight. The rule of thumb is to divide the sash weight by how many springs support it; so, for example, if your sash weighs 10 pounds then you want two 5 pound springs (one on each side).

Sorry, I have another question. I weighted my windows. Some window sashes weigh 20 lbs. Others weigh 12 lbs. What are the correct part numbers for the coil springs. I want to make sure I'm ordering the correct parts. Thanks - Joe

So for the 20 pound sash, you can use two 5 pound springs on each side (S152-5). Similarly, for a 12 pound sash, you can use one 6 pound spring per side (S152-6).

Just note that if your 20 pound sash doesn't currently use a two spring setup, that you might need new covers. Let me know if that's the case and I can walk you through it.

Hi Tom, Hope ypou can help. First on the postive side - the Title Winndow Latch works perfect, the Coil Balance Shoes work perfect. I'm having a proble figuring out the Sereies 152 Coil Balance. The orginail coil springs shown in the photos have a tab instead of a hole at the end. The new ones I purchased for SWISCO have a hole at the end. I can't figure out how to get coild balance to attached to the balance screw. Is there something I'm not understanding or did I order the wrong part? If I did order the wrong part can I return what I purchased and reorder something that will work? Thanks - Joe

Hello! Glad to hear everything is going smoothly, for the most part. As for how the Series 152 spring interacts with the 15-177, what you have to do is feed the spring into one of the two diagonal slots you see at the top end of the pivot shoe housing. It then screws in; you would insert the screw from the side of the shoe, where you see the hole. We use a #8 x 3/8" screw like our 33-072, but you can use anything you have in that size.
