Pivot Bar, Pivot Shoe, and Coil Balance

Hello! When inspecting my windows (Alside Ultramaxx from early 2007) I noticed a couple of broken pivot shoes as well as a broken pivot bar. When going through your site I found what appear to be good replacements for the pivot bar (26-226) and the pivot shoe (15-177). I'm not sure whether I'll need a replacement for any of the coil balances as of yet but haven't been able to get far enough to see if a similar part is available.

When I went to remove the pivot shoe to measure to be sure I'm ordering the correct part, I went to slide this up to the cutout at the top of the frame and noticed some kind of screw in the path that is blocking my ability to slide this out. I've been unable to find anything online for anything that looks like this and didn't know whether you might have an idea of what this is? I'm unsure of what the function could be but if there were some way to remove this I believe I would be in the clear to move forward.

Thank you very much for your assistance in advance!

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out to us! You are correct, the 15-177 Coil Balance Shoe and 26-226 Pivot Bar would be the replacement hardware you need to repair you window.

Should you need to replace the coils, this shoe is compatible with the Series 152 Coil Balance. You'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the coil to determine the correct spring. If there are none, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of your sash and divide that number by the total number of coils in the window.

The screw you are experiencing the issue with is a side jamb adjusting screw. It is attached to a spring like adapter behind the window frame and brings the the side jambs in closer to the sashes to prevent air leaks; this gets adjusted when the windows are installed. Then, after a few months when the sealant is dry, the side jambs are locked in placed.

The screw should be flush in the track as to let the pivot shoe slide pass. That being said, see if you can turn screw in to make it flush, if not try unscrewing it. If either way won't work, you (or a professional) will need to remove the complete window, reset the adjusting screw and reinstall the window.

I hope this helps!

Hi Jasmine! Thank you very much for the extremely helpful information! I'm considering ordering the coil balance just in case it might be needed. Do you happen to have the housing for the coil balance as well and, if so, which part numbers this would be? It is in the first photo above but I can try to get a closer photo of it if it would help. If I can I'd like to try to get all of the parts on hand to do this work at the same time.

Thank you again!

I'm happy to help! The housing wouldn't be the same but yours can be replaced with the 15-143 Coil Bushing, 15-144 Coil Bushing Cap, and 15-145 Coil Support Barrel, tagged below.

Hi Jasmine,

Thank you so much! I think I will order the coil balance and associated supports just in case it might be needed.

I'm sorry to bother you again but I did have one more question. One sash weighs 16 pounds with one coil on each side so the 8 pound series 152 coil balance seems appropriate. However the other window weighs 22 pounds with two coils on each side. Given that, would it be appropriate to order a 5 and a 6 pound coil to use on one side? I could not find markings on the coil that I can see at this point.

Thank you again for all of your help!

It's no bother! For the 16lb sash the S152-8 would be appropriate and for the 22lb sash you'll need the S152-5 and S152-6. You'll just need to be sure that the assembly using the double coils is setup the exact same on both sides.
