Reading the other posts has been extremely helpful - thank you!
We are moving into a apartment and found the windows have been quite abused. They are Champion double hung tilt metal frame windows. We already replaced a tilt latch on one window and then realized another was in need of repair.
The pivot shoe is still connected to the window balance, but no longer attached to the pivot bar. We measured it in the frame because it is rather jammed and found it to be 1/2" thick, 2" tall, and 1.25" wide.
The balance is 35" with a black cap. The pivot bar is 3" long based on our measurements. There are cut-outs at the top of the frames so we should be able to get the pivot shoe(s) out and back in. It is difficult to tell the age of the windows.
Thank you for your advice and help.

Hello! I agree with the parts you picked out. They all seem to match up perfectly well. Concerning the pivot bar, if you can find a screw at a local hardware store then you can get away with just using that. Otherwise, you could use our 26-040. I also recommend that you at least replace the balances on both sides of the window. Pivot shoes can be reused, as long as they're in good condition, but you don't want an older, weaker balance with a newer balance. That will cause the spring in the new balance to wear out faster. |
