Replacing 3 coil balances

Quick Learner from Luton, UNITED KINGDOM.

Hello Swisco Team:

I need to replace a window coil balance trio. Coil springs are: 1/2" wide

Numbered 9,7,4 (=20) Window panel weighs: 30lbs.

Am I right to say that the right replacement is you Series 152? S152-9

S152-7

S152-4

If yes, How much will they be (final price)

Thank you very much.

Hey Tomas. You are correct that the Series 152 might be the coil springs you're looking for. However, that pivot shoe is no longer made, so if you need to replace the shoe as well, you'll need to go with a substitute. The 15-177 could be the ticket, in which case you'd still use the Series 152 springs which it's compatible with. To be safe though, can you show us a picture of the pivot bar that fits into the shoe? That will help narrow down your options further.

Note that all shipping options are listed upon checking out, and you'll have a chance to review each options available to your location before any sort of payment. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you for your time, there are a few photos.

Last questions:

Are there any S152-10?

Can I replace a trio with a duo, using 2 teorical 10lbs coils?

Thanks.

Hello! Bob's not here today, but I'll do my best to help you.

I've come across your coil balance assembly many times, and while the Series 152 is a potential fit, I find that it's not perfect. Especially in your application, which has such a heavy sash, you're going to have a hard time installing three of these onto the 15-177. A 10 pound option would help alleviate that, but such an option is not made. I think we can do something better for you.

Consider instead our S140-15. This is a two spring coil balance assembly that measures 1-1/4" wide x 9/16" thick. Your first step before you do anything is to check the size of your old pivot shoe to ensure that this size matches up.

If so, then I think this is going to be your easiest replacement option. Two of these assemblies working together can carry a sash weight range of 29 through 30.99 pounds. Plus, they only have two springs that come fully assembled out of the box, so they'll be a little easier to deal with.

The only concern I have is the pivot bar. I'll be perfectly blunt with you: I've never in my life seen a pivot bar like that. I think that's probably because you're in the UK, and there are bound to be some differences compared to how our windows are made over here. I really have no idea if it will be compatible with the S140-15. It may be worth a shot, but ultimately you may need to retrofit one of ours to install in your window. Something like the 26-398 or 26-405, but only if you have the room for them. Look them over and see what you think.

In the off chance that your old pivot bar is compatible with our S140-15, and assuming that yours has the same width and depth, then this product would be my #1 pick.
