Rollers Needed

We’re unable to remove the roller assembly from the lower frame due to years of corrosion. We could try to drill out the top screws to facilitate removal of the roller assembly. Is this type of roller available with a metal wheel? We think the current rollers are nylon.

Good afternoon, Paul!
Perhaps we spoke over a week ago. I appreciated your thoughts then and also, now. The removal of the roller assembly is our next task.
The two roller assemblies that you suggest look like a good solution; best may be the one with the larger diameter wheel. Once the complete assembly is out we'll know more. We glad that you displayed the machine screws since we likely will not recover any asa we keep drilling.
Anotheer apprehension is that the two suggested assemblies you sent have two screws at the end, one for adjusting the height and the other to secure it to the frame. Our sliding glass door frame has only one screw at the end, soley to attach to the frame. It may be feasible to drill another hole to accomodate the roller assembly adjustment screw.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks again!

I agree that you will need to drill an extra hole in the vertical door stiles to adjust the new roller to the proper height and level the door in the track.

Thanks for your thoughts. Recently found an image of the rollers that look more similar to the ones requiring replacement. The image is attached.
Does SwisCo carry a roller like this?

Take a look at the 81-006 roller. It has the 1-1/2" diameter wheel you need. Take a look at it on the web site and see if the other dimensions match up with your roller.

Good morning, Dave!
We appreciate your suggestion and will continue in the removal of the old rollers.
Sincerely,
Dallas

Good morning, Dave!
The rollers for which we're searching have been removed from the door frame. The 81-006 roller you recommended might work except for the presence of the flare (the portion that protrudes from the unit) but the roller requiring replacement in the door does not have that flare effectively increasing the width beyond 3/4".
Recently roller 81-020 came to mind but it, too, has the flare on both sides. There is another, 81-041, but it is 1/8" less in height and doesn't have a means to be attached to the door frame. It has been challenging to measure the wheel diameter on the roller needing replacement but it is liekly 1.5".
We appreciate your thoughts and help! -Dallas

Take a look at the 81-295 roller with a 1-1/2" diameter wheel. This looks close to the size you need. Hopefully, the assembly screw that holds your door together at the bottom rail will go through the screw tab at the back of the 81-295 roller to keep it in place. Also, take a look at the wheel and axle kit, 81-272, to see if you could replace the wheel and reuse the original housings. Review the related hardware and videos shown on this page to assist you.

Hi, Dave!
We continue to surf through your offering of rollers. Is the semi-whole of roller 81-041 threaded? On the end of the roller assembly just about the adjustment screw is a semi-whole. Is this threaded?
Also, how much wider is roller 81-020 when including the flares on each side of its assembly? Since we pulled the old rollers and cleaned them we noticed how easily they slip back in, therefore we need to stick with 3/4" width for the assembly.
Thanks for your help!

The top "semi" hole in the 81-041 roller is not threaded. With the roller in the bottom door rail, the door frame screw would go through that hole into a screw spline in the bottom rail of the patio door. However, some bottom rails don't have a "screw spline" and use the patio roller itself to hold the frame together. As for the 81-020 "flares", they are a type of "clip" that goes into a cutout in the bottom rail to lock the roller into the door rail. If you feel this roller will fit your door, you may be able to file off the "flares". Just keep in mind that modified parts can't be returned for a refund.
