S795-28 with 15-194

A home owner from MD-21042 says:
Pic-1 1705 shows the old channel balancer 28" with a groove at the tilt shoe end --- which makes it unsuitable for the 15-194.

The S795 28 is the recommended replacement with a 15-194 shoe to be swapped with the shipped shoe. Ordered 2 each

However there is a significant difference in the top hook of the old and new balancers (in my case).

The old hook is 3/4" long and protrudes above the end--- the shape and size of that hook can be seen in fig 1706 (though not positioned correctly). The hole in the jamb is accordingly higher.

The new balancer has an L-shaped latch flat with the top of the channel. and will not engage. Simulated in fig 1707

Will a longer (29" say) channel help or will it cause "other" problems?

Thanks for posting! I agree, our S795-28 and 15-194 was definitely the way to go. That hook is an issue, though. It looks like it's our 15-198, which was used on many older versions of this balance.

So, you have two options. The first is that we custom make a Series 795 balance for you with this hook attached (and the 15-194 shoe, while we're at it) and you return the balances you already bought for a refund.

Or, since you already have them, you can see if you can attach the 15-198 hooks yourself. The only issue with this is that it can be a little tricky. Basically you want to pull the cord out and lock it in a strong vice. You have to make sure the cord is firmly in place, because if it gets away from you and shoots backs into the channel you could damage either the balance or hurt yourself.

Once the cord is locked firmly in place, you'll untie the screw tab and tie on the new 15-198 clip. Then, firmly hold onto the cord, let go of the vice, and gently let the cord retract. It's highly advisable to wear safety gloves and goggles for this project.

If you don't want to go through all that, let me know. We'll go with the first option and set up a custom order link for you.

Thanks for the response. Will go with option 1
Cannot return the Srs-795 as they are damaged while trying different solutions.

Would like to order

1. 4x s_795-28-c with 15-198 hooks and T 15-194 shoes

2. 2x S-795-28-D with 15-198 hooks and T-15-194 shoes

3. 2x T-15-194 shoes

How to go about it on your site.

Great! I'll email you an order link for both balances right now. These order links will allow you to add the special balances to your cart as if they were a normal part. You can then continue to shop for anything else you may need.
