Simonton Vinyl Window coil balances

Home Owner from Greenwood, Indiana
Hi, I'm needing to replace coil balances in a Simonton vinyl window (35.5 X 59.5). I can't see any markings or stamps on the parts because of corrosion. The window is 30 years old.

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. We're happy to look into this. Can you show us a photo of the pivot shoe? Note that you may need to fully remove the window sash to get a good look at it. Once we can identify the pivot shoe, we can determine the proper coil balances.

This is perfect, thank you! The 15-111 pivot shoe appears to match what you have here. This is designed to use the 1/2" Series 160 coil springs. You can check the old spring band for a stamped weight code.

For a new coil support, see the 15-150D or 15-150S depending on the number of springs used per side.

Let us know if you have any questions!

The window weighs 19.4 lbs. I divided it by 4 coil balances total (2 on each side) and got 4.85. This window had more coils just thrown in it, but the other good windows seem to have a double balance on each side, so I figure the previous owner just bought more coils and added them at some point. The closest coil balance in the set you recommended is 4.5, and the next up is 5.5. Should I get the 4.5 since that's closest to 4.85? Thanks for any advice. I just want to make sure I get the best option.

You have two options with your sash weight. You could use one S160-04 4.5-pound spring and one S160-05 5.5-pound spring on both sides of the window. This would be 10 pounds of support per side, which totals 20 pounds of overall support.

You could also just use one S160-10 10-pound spring on each side of the window. That will also total 20 pounds of overall support for the window.
